Bern’s Steak House Executive Chef Chad Johnson and Chef de Cuisine Brent Hunt present an intimate five-course dining experience, featuring Bordeaux’s First Growths. Each course is thoughtfully paired to highlight the complexity and elegance of these legendary wines, concluding with a decadent dessert crafted by Pastry Chef Hannah Thomas.

Held in the historic Bordeaux Room at Bern’s Steak House, this exclusive event offers an intimate atmosphere where renowned wine author Jane Anson will share her expertise, and guests will receive a complimentary copy of her latest book, Inside Bordeaux.  Jane is an award-winning wine writer and teacher and is a contributing editor to Decanter magazine. She is also a contributor to US podcast ‘Wine for Normal People’.

The Laxer Family Foundation is a charitable foundation that provides the opportunity to raise money through events that foster a more inclusive and cooperative youth culture while cultivating the advancement of the next generation of culinary leaders through scholarships. Since 1997, Bern’s Winefest has been the main fundraising event for the Bern Laxer Memorial Scholarship. Through the James Beard Foundation selection process, funds are awarded to individuals from the state of Florida in one of three disciplines: Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or Viticulture. A portion of the proceeds raised through this event will go  directly to the Bern Laxer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jane Anson

Jane Anson has lived in Bordeaux since 2003 and is author of Inside Bordeaux (BB&R Press 2020, called a ‘category buster’ by Wine Anorak and ‘the Bordeaux bible’ by Le Figaro), Haut-Bailly (First Press Editions 2021), Wine Revolution (Quarto 2017), The Club of Nine (Katz Publishing 2016) Angélus (Editions de la Martiniere, 2016) and Bordeaux Legends, a history of the 1855 First Growth wines (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2013, and re-released as an NFT ebook in 2022), as well as co-author or translator of over a dozen wine and travel books. She also became, in 2021, the only journalist to taste a bottle of Petrus that had spent 14 months circumnavigating the earth on the International Space Station.

She has won several awards for her writing, including Louis Roederer Wine Online Communicator of the Year 2020, and Born Digital Best Editorial 2020. She is also winner of the IWSC 2023 Wine Communicator Trophy, and in February 2024 was awarded a V d'Or in Best Education and Knowledge Sharing for co-founding the Bordeaux Mentor Week, a charity initiative aimed at supporting the next generation of the wine industry.

Jane was the first woman to deliver the André Simon lecture for the International Wine and Food Society since the lecture series began in 1971, speaking in June 2020 on the subject of terroir in Bordeaux. After almost 20 years as Bordeaux correspondent and columnist for Decanter magazine, she has now launched her own website.

She is a graduate of the DUAD tasting diploma with the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology and an accredited wine teacher at the Bordeaux Ecole du Vin.
